Here’s Why the Best Way to Quit Tobacco is With a Coach

Here at Pivot, we believe that there is strength in numbers

Using Pivot, you have a real, human health coach right at your fingertips (and in your back pocket) specializing in tobacco cessation (aka helping you quit).

Having a coach invested in your success is a game-changer

Working with a Pivot coach is one of the best ways to quit tobacco because they operate under the belief that the journey to quitting isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. In fact, these coaches believe that everyone has their own unique way of both learning and progressing forward.

Pivot coaches understand that no matter where you are in the quit process, your feelings toward quitting, or even how many times a quit has been attempted, habit changes big and small don’t need to be made alone.

Social support provides connection and engagement

Social support is a big part of what makes our tobacco cessation program both unique and successful, through connecting with coaches and engaging with the peer network Pivot has cultivated. Emerging research has shown that interacting with online social networks positively affects your success in quitting tobacco use. In fact, simply talking to your coach can increase your chances of quitting by up to 3.7 times.

You also have an opportunity to talk to others who are traveling on roads parallel to yours within the Pivot community. Stories, photos, and questions are shared, and major and minor milestones you’ve reached within your Pivot journey are celebrated.

Here are a few types of conversations you may have within Pivot

Reducing

Like you, Pivoters have also focused on cutting back first versus quitting by experimenting with changing up one routine or trigger at a time. In the Pivot community, you can find new ideas or ways others are successfully cutting back. With your coach, you can chat about what’s been going well, what hasn’t worked, and how you can make the positive changes stick for good.

Setting a quit date

If you’ve ever attempted to set a quit date before, you know that this can feel exciting and scary at the same time. That’s why Pivot coaches recommend writing down your proposed quit date – when writing things down, intentions are set, which puts them into motion. Sharing your quit date with others in the Pivot community can help strengthen your commitment. You’ll be showered with support for taking such a big step!

Navigating challenges

Ups and downs are a common part of quitting. You are not alone. What you share with your coach is confidential and in a non-judgmental space to talk openly. You’ll gain a tremendous amount of support from the Pivot community, where you can share your challenges and receive advice from others going through similar things.

Quitting doesn’t have to be something you go alone

Pivot makes it easier to help those looking for a change by helping you solidify the skills needed to effectively quit tobacco. Whether you find the user community, personalized coaching, or engaging lessons to be your favorite, Pivot has what people like you need to take the first step on the journey to quitting.
